“On January 1st I start the diet" either "Next year I'm going to organize my time better." either "Starting in February, we will communicate better in my work area.”. Sound familiar? Good. These are what we call “New Year’s resolutions.” The question then is: Is there a way to make these wishful thinking come true? And our answer is resounding: YES!
So if you're one of those who likes to enter the new year with a list of resolutions, here are some tips:
Step 1: Needless to say, most of these resolutions are very easy to announce (or write) and very difficult to actually implement. It's best to set one goal at a time and break it down into tasks that involve small steps. A key tool is to make this resolution as defined as possible. It's not about saying "I'm going to read more." It's about defining how many books, which ones, and how long I'll read them.
Step 2: Don't overload yourself. Select what, for whatever reason, challenges or stimulates you and focus all your energy and attention on achieving it.
Step 3: Find someone to accompany you along the way. Someone you trust who can monitor your progress, manage your anxieties, and, ultimately, act as a support.
Step 4: If you slip back or lose focus, pick it up again! Start over. The important thing is not to give up.
Step 5: Rewarding ourselves is important. It means recognizing that we're making progress toward achieving that much-desired goal. This way, we motivate ourselves to continue along the chosen path.
Step 6: Choose things that depend on you and not on others (promotions in the company, for example). That way, the risk of frustration is much lower.
Finally, take time to laugh, to do what you love, to enjoy yourself. Performing excellently in life and at work doesn't mean always being on your toes and looking worried.
We hope you have great success and enjoy a healthy, prosperous, and amazing year.
